CLARIFICATION OF TERMS!
As the subject of free energy spreads there seems to be much confusion about certain terms, free energy, overunity, COP, etc. This is a definition as they are applied to any experiments on this site and how I feel they should apply in general!
- Free Energy = Energy you don't have to pay for, it is supplied freely, solar panels are an example. Of course the sun is using Hydrogen as fuel, but it costs us no currency to use this as a supply of energy. The efficiency is of course much less than 100%!
- COP = This is NOT the same as efficiency. Devices can have a COP of greater than 1, but an efficiency of less than 100%. By nature all devices have some form of resistance and this automatically limits the efficiency due to losses. As the COP cares about energy input that you have to pay for only, then the COP can be greater than 1. A very crude example can again be a solar panel. We could place a solar panel in the sun and also place a light bulb in front of it for which we are paying to light it. We are getting more energy out than we are paying for if we consider the light bulb as the only input (best case eff!), if we consider the sun is also falling on the panel too, then we have a COP of greater than one and the extra is free. Of course this is a simple example and not a practical option.
- Overunity = This term indicates we can get more out than we put in. This is the most meaningless term. Take the 2nd example. If we don't consider the sun, then we have more out than we put in (assuming max eff!). If we are getting more out than we are apparently putting in, then we are tapping an as yet unknown source which accounts for the extra output. This must also be considered an input and when we add this hidden input to our known input, we will find we do not have overunity. Therefore the term overunity can never apply.
