A Simple Magnetic Probe

Created 03/04/05

The following is a simple gauss meter which utilises a Hall Effect IC.  The output can be read on a DVM or an oscilloscope.  Positive voltages indicate a NORTH Pole and Negative voltages indicate a SOUTH Pole.  If correctly calibrated, the circuit can indicate correct field strength also.  However in order to minimise space i have not used a split voltage supply as shown in the circuit diagram, I have used a 9v battery with 5v regulator.  The output voltage is then set to 2v, a voltage higher than 2v then indicates one pole and if the voltage drops below 2v the other pole is indicated.
